SNMP exposes management data in the form of variables on the managed systems.

These variables can then be queried by NMS applications. Each variable may be identified through an OID (Object Identifier). MIBs describe the structure of the management data of a device subsystem; they use a hierarchical namespacecontaining object identifiers(OID).

To configure monitored values, we may need to access to this “documentation”.
